On February 15, the Finnish Transport Workers' Union (AKT) broke out a strike, which affected all ports and terminals in Finland, resulting in the suspension of operations at all ports and terminals in the country. The strike action is still continuing.
The Finnish dockworkers are understood to have left their jobs after negotiations failed, threatening to stop almost all of Finland's foreign trade. While 90% of Finland's export goods are processed at the port, the strike will have a serious impact on Finland's foreign trade.
On February 27, Maersk's official website issued an updated warning that the strike of the Finnish Transport Workers' Union (AKT) is still going on, affecting all ports and terminals in Finland until further notice.
Although negotiations are due to resume on March 1, the negotiating parties have yet to reach an agreement. All vessel operations, gate movements and container handling in terminals in Finnish ports remain suspended until further notice.
Maersk asks all customers booking in Finland, the country of loading, not to renew bookings online or through other electronic channels. Maersk will be proactive in updating shipping plans once the terminal restarts operations.
Remind again, shippers and freight forwarders who plan to ship to Finland in the near future must pay close attention to the delay and impact of the strike on the transportation of goods to avoid unnecessary losses! Forward to know~
